86th All India Presiding Officers Conference Begins in Lucknow

January 19, 2026 : The 86th All India Presiding Officers Conference (AIPOC) is set to commence today at the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha in Lucknow, bringing together presiding officers, legislative secretaries and senior representatives from across the country. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will address the inaugural session.

The three-day conference will feature detailed deliberations on legislative procedures, parliamentary traditions, the conduct of legislative houses, good governance, and contemporary legislative challenges. A major focus of the discussions will be on leveraging technology to make legislative processes more transparent, efficient and citizen-centric. Participants will also exchange views on capacity building of legislators to enhance efficiency, strengthen democratic governance, and improve the accountability of legislatures to the public.

Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Satish Mahana will deliver the welcome address. The inaugural session will also be addressed by Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh and Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Mata Prasad Pandey.

Ministers of the Uttar Pradesh government, members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly, along with other distinguished dignitaries, will attend the event. The conference will conclude on 21 January 2026 with the valedictory address by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
