Bilaspur : Guru Ghasidas Central University has shifted the long-pending issue of regularisation of 109 daily-wage employees to the Union Government, stating that any further action now rests with the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the University’s Executive Council convened on Wednesday evening, shortly after the dismissal of the university’s curative petition by the Supreme Court of India. Courts at all levels, including the High Court and the Supreme Court, have earlier ruled in favour of the employees seeking regularisation.

The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alok Chakrawal and attended by Registrar Prof. Ashwani Kumar Dixit and other Executive Council members. Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission also joined the deliberations online.

After discussion, the Executive Council resolved to seek a fresh legal opinion and to formally write to the Ministry of Education and the UGC, requesting sanction of posts along with funds to cover salaries and pending dues of the 109 employees. With this decision, the university has effectively placed the responsibility for implementation of the court rulings on the central authorities.

The prolonged dispute has taken a heavy toll. Eight employees awaiting regularisation have died over the years, while 18 others have been removed from service during the pendency of the case.

Reacting to queries, University media in-charge Prof. Manish Srivastava said he was aware that an emergency Executive Council meeting had taken place but was not yet informed of its decisions. He added that clarity would emerge only after the official minutes of the meeting are issued.
