Law Notify, January 18, 2026 : Police in Uttar Pradesh have registered eight separate FIRs over the alleged circulation of misleading content on social media linked to the reconstruction work at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi.
The cases were lodged on Wednesday evening at the Chowk police station following complaints that images of Hindu deities were being misused online to mislead devotees, provoke public outrage, disturb social harmony, and damage the reputation of the executing agency and the government.
The complaints were filed by the construction agency responsible for infrastructure strengthening and beautification work at Manikarnika Ghat. Police officials said no arrests have been made so far, and the matter is under investigation.
