February 07, 2026 : City-based social worker T Dhangopal Rao has withdrawn his appeal before a division bench of the Telangana High Court challenging the appointment of B Shivadhar Reddy as the Director General of Police (head of police force) of Telangana.
Rao had earlier moved the appeal against a January 9 order passed by a single judge, who declined to suspend Reddy’s appointment. In that order, the single judge directed the Union Public Service Commission to consider the list of IPS officers forwarded by the Telangana government in the last week of December 2025 and to process the appointment of a full-time DGP in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines.
Challenging this direction, Rao approached the division bench. When the matter came up before the bench comprising Justices P Sam Koshy and N Narsing Rao, Rao informed the court that the Supreme Court had since directed the state government to expedite the process of appointing a full-time DGP or Head of Police Force in Telangana.
In view of this development, Rao sought permission to withdraw his appeal. Recording his submission, the division bench dismissed the appeal as withdrawn and disposed of the matter.
