  • TRAI Introduces Star Rating System to Boost Indoor Digital Connectivity

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India | LawNotify.in

Pushpendra Kumar Singh, Principal Advisor to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, has introduced a new rating framework aimed at improving indoor digital connectivity across the country. The initiative is designed to ensure strong and reliable signal quality inside buildings, where users often face network issues despite adequate outdoor coverage.

The framework focuses on key spaces such as hospitals, public buildings, government offices and residential complexes. These are environments where stable connectivity is no longer optional. Services like remote work, telemedicine, digital education and online banking depend on consistent indoor network performance.

Under the proposed system, buildings will be evaluated and awarded ratings based on the quality of their digital infrastructure. A Five-Star rating will indicate the highest standard of connectivity readiness. Participation in the framework is voluntary, allowing property developers and building owners to adopt it at their discretion.

According to TRAI, the rating system will bring greater transparency to the real estate sector. Prospective buyers and investors will be able to assess a property’s digital preparedness before making decisions. The move is aligned with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, which emphasises strengthening digital infrastructure as a foundation for economic growth and inclusive development.

By prioritising seamless connectivity within the built environment, the framework aims to set clear benchmarks and encourage better planning for indoor network quality across India.
