March 1, 2026 : The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Monday organised the 11th edition of the National Conference on Economics of Competition Law in New Delhi. The conference brought together policymakers, economists and legal experts to discuss the evolving role of competition law in strengthening India’s market economy.
The event was inaugurated by NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba, who delivered the keynote address highlighting the importance of competition in driving economic progress.
Speaking at the conference, Gauba said that healthy competition acts as a strong engine for innovation, efficiency and greater consumer choice. He noted that competition law plays a crucial role in supporting economic development by ensuring fair market practices and preventing barriers to entry in open markets.
Gauba also emphasized that a robust competition framework creates opportunities for small businesses to grow and compete on equal footing. According to him, strong enforcement of competition law helps India integrate more effectively into global value chains and strengthens the country’s economic ecosystem.
The conference focused on key issues related to competition economics and policy, providing a platform for discussions on regulatory challenges, market dynamics and the future of competition law in India.
