  • Chhattisgarh High Court Orders Major Judicial Reshuffle Across State, Multiple Judges Transferred

    High Court of Chhattisgarh - Bilaspur

    March 18, 2026 : the High Court of Chhattisgarh at Bilaspur has issued a series of orders effecting large-scale transfers, postings, and promotions within the state judiciary. The orders, all dated March 18, 2026, cover members of the Higher Judicial Service as well as Civil Judges of both senior and junior divisions.

    According to official orders , several senior judicial officers have been reassigned to key administrative and academic roles. Shri Sumit Kapoor has been appointed as Registrar (Judicial) in the High Court establishment, while Shri Amit Kumar Kohli and Shri Digvijay Singh have been posted as Additional Directors at the Chhattisgarh State Judicial Academy, Bilaspur. Shri Umesh Kumar Upadhyay has been appointed as Additional Registrar (Judicial).

    In a parallel order , four officers of the Higher Judicial Service have been elevated and posted as Principal District and Sessions Judges. Notably, Shri Shakti Singh Rajput has been transferred to Ambikapur (Surguja), while Shri Khilawan Ram Rigri has been posted to Kondagaon.

    Another order reflects the appointment of Shri Liladhar Sarthi as Special Judge under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Korba, indicating continued strengthening of special courts handling sensitive cases.

    A comprehensive transfer list spanning over 30 judicial officers details postings across multiple districts including Raipur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Raigarh, and Ambikapur. These transfers include district and additional sessions judges, with several officers assigned to courts dealing with POCSO and other special matters.

    Further, through a notification , certain judicial officers have been reassigned within the same stations but in different capacities. For instance, Shri Anand Prakash Wariyal and Shri Pawan Kumar Agrawal have been given specific jurisdictional responsibilities, including exclusive handling of NDPS cases.

    The High Court has also implemented promotions of Civil Judges (Senior Division) to District Judge (Entry Level), as per order . Officers such as Ku. Pratibha Markam and Smt. Chandrakala Devi Sahu have been elevated and posted as Additional Sessions Judges in different districts.

    Additionally, extensive transfers of Civil Judges (Senior Division) have been carried out , with postings across districts like Raipur, Ambikapur, Rajnandgaon, and Narayanpur. The restructuring aims at administrative efficiency and balanced judicial distribution.

    At the entry level, Civil Judges (Junior Division) have also been transferred in large numbers , covering over 20 officers across districts such as Durg, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Bastar, and Surguja.
