April 6, 2026 : The Chhattisgarh High Court has delivered a landmark verdict in the high-profile 2003 murder of senior NCP leader Ram Avatar Jaggi, sentencing former MLA Amit Jogi to life imprisonment. The son of the state’s first Chief Minister, the late Ajit Jogi, Amit Jogi was convicted following an extensive legal battle involving multiple appeals.
A division bench consisting of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Arvind Kumar Verma passed the sentence after reviewing a CBI appeal, a revision petition from the victim’s son, Satish Jaggi, and a plea for the enhancement of the original sentence.
The case dates back to 2003, when Ram Avatar Jaggi, a prominent businessman and politician, was shot dead in Raipur during the tenure of the Ajit Jogi-led government. While initially dismissed as a robbery by local police, the investigation gained momentum in 2004 when it was transferred to the CBI following a change in the state government. This ruling marks a significant conclusion to a case that has dominated Chhattisgarh’s political and legal landscape for over two decades.
