Haryana SEC Orders Crackdown on Illegal Election Hoardings, Mandates Videographic Evidence

May 2, 2026 : The Haryana State Election Commission has taken strict cognisance of the unauthorised display of posters, banners, flex boards and hoardings across various locations during the ongoing general and bye-elections to municipal bodies.

Commission Secretary Gaurav Kumar stated that such displays constitute clear violations of both the Model Code of Conduct and the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989.

In response, the Commission has issued directions to all election observers, police authorities, expenditure observers and Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts to conduct videography of these illegal displays within their respective jurisdictions. The move is aimed at ensuring proper documentation and enabling prompt legal action against violations.

The directive signals a stricter enforcement approach to maintain electoral discipline and curb defacement of public property during the election period.
