Chhattisgarh Govt Enforces Austerity Measures to Curb Expenditure, Boost Financial Discipline

May 16, 2026 : The Chhattisgarh government has issued a fresh set of guidelines aimed at enforcing austerity in public expenditure and strengthening financial discipline across departments. The new directives have come into immediate effect and will remain operational till September 30, 2026.

According to the government, the move is intended to ensure efficient utilisation of the state’s financial resources and bring greater accountability in spending.

Under the new measures, only essential vehicles will be permitted in the motorcades of the Chief Minister, ministers and senior officials. The state government has also decided to gradually replace conventional government vehicles with electric vehicles as part of its phased transition plan. In addition, departments have been directed to promote vehicle pooling to reduce fuel consumption and transportation costs.

The guidelines further impose a complete ban on foreign travel by government employees during the specified period.

To minimise administrative expenditure, virtual meetings will be prioritised over physical meetings wherever possible. The government has also made energy conservation measures mandatory in all government buildings as part of its cost-cutting and sustainability initiatives.
