June 17, 2026 : The Supreme Court on Wednesday described cyber criminals as “parasites” who prey on innocent investors and observed that such offenders must be dealt with firmly under the law. The remarks were made by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana while hearing a petition seeking the clubbing of multiple FIRs registered against the petitioner in different states.
During the hearing, the bench noted that victims of cyber fraud are often spread across the country and that cyber offences have far-reaching consequences for society. Emphasising the seriousness of such crimes, the court observed that keeping cyber criminals behind bars serves the larger public interest.
The petitioner had approached the Supreme Court seeking the consolidation of FIRs lodged in various states. However, the court declined to entertain the plea and advised the petitioner to seek appropriate relief before the jurisdictional High Court. The bench consequently refused to grant the requested relief, reiterating the need for a strict approach in dealing with cyber fraud offenders.
