NHRC Issues Notice to Karnataka Government Over Alleged Abuse of Toddlers at Bengaluru IT Company Creche

July 3, 2026 : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Karnataka over reports of toddlers allegedly being subjected to inhuman treatment by caregivers at a creche operating within an IT company campus in Bengaluru.

Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the Commission has directed the Karnataka government to submit a detailed report on the incident within two weeks.

The NHRC observed that if the allegations reported in the media are found to be true, they represent a serious violation of the human rights of young children and warrant immediate action.

According to the reports, the alleged abuse came to light after a Child Helpline official received videos showing nannies treating toddlers with cruelty. The children were reportedly those of professionals employed at the IT campus, who had entrusted their care to the creche during working hours.

The Commission is expected to examine the findings of the state authorities after receiving the report and determine whether further action is required to ensure accountability and strengthen child protection measures at workplace childcare facilities.
