Korba, September 3, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening access to justice at the grassroots level, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur, Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, virtually inaugurated the Family Court at Katghora in Korba district on Thursday.
The establishment of the Family Court at Katghora is aimed at making judicial services more accessible, convenient and citizen-centric for people residing in Katghora and surrounding areas. The new judicial forum is expected to particularly benefit litigants involved in matrimonial and other family-related disputes by providing them with a judicial facility closer to their place of residence.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Chief Justice Justice Ramesh Sinha highlighted the importance of expanding judicial services and developing modern judicial infrastructure in accordance with the changing needs of society. He also emphasised the role of technology, modern infrastructure and citizen-centric approaches in improving the delivery of justice.
Justice Sinha observed that the commencement of the Family Court at Katghora would have a positive impact on parties involved in family disputes, as they would be able to access judicial services at the local level without having to travel longer distances for proceedings relating to family matters.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Principal District and Sessions Judge, Korba, Shri Santosh Sharma. He underlined the significance of the establishment of the Family Court and acknowledged the guidance and vision of the Chief Justice in strengthening judicial infrastructure and improving access to justice.
The Family Court at Katghora has been established with the broader objective of creating a more accessible, responsive and people-oriented justice delivery system. Its establishment is also seen as an important institutional step towards ensuring that family-related disputes are dealt with through a judicial mechanism designed to address the specific nature and sensitivities of such matters.
Immediately after the virtual inauguration, a short video presentation highlighting the newly established Family Court at Katghora was screened. The presentation provided an overview of the judicial facility and its functioning, while also illustrating the broader objective of bringing the justice delivery system closer to the people.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Principal Judge, Family Court, Korba, Smt. Neeta Yadav. She expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, judicial and administrative officers, members of the Bar, judicial staff and all those associated with the successful organisation of the inaugural programme.
The event was conducted by Shri Sagar Chandrakar, First Civil Judge, Junior Division, Katghora. All judicial officers posted in Korba district were present on the occasion, along with Chhattisgarh State Bar Council President Shri Ravindra Parasar, Katghora Bar Association President Shri Rajesh Pal, advocates, judicial employees and other stakeholders.
The inauguration of the Family Court at Katghora marks an important addition to the judicial infrastructure of Korba district. The initiative reflects the continuing emphasis of the Chhattisgarh judiciary on accessible justice, modern judicial infrastructure, technological integration and citizen-focused justice delivery.
