Surajpur : Fast Track Court awards life imprisonment for the remainder of natural life to the fourth convict; all four were convicted on September 29 in the murder case involving sexual assault and the killing of a minor girl.
A Fast Track Court in Surajpur, Chhattisgarh, has sentenced three convicts to death and awarded the fourth imprisonment for life for the remainder of his natural life in the October 2024 murder of a head constable’s wife and his minor daughter.
District and Additional Sessions Judge Anand Prakash Wariyal pronounced the sentences on October 8. Kuldeep Sahu, Chandrakant Chaudhary alias CK and Phool Singh alias Rinku were awarded the death penalty, while Aryan Vishwakarma alias Goldy was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The court had convicted all four accused on September 29 under provisions relating to murder, sexual offences and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The prosecution sought the maximum punishment, citing the gravity of the crime.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in October 2024 when the head constable’s wife was sexually assaulted and murdered, and his minor daughter was also killed. Their bodies were subsequently recovered approximately five kilometres from their residence.
The prosecution linked the background of the crime to a dispute involving Kuldeep Sahu’s brother during a religious programme on October 9, 2024. Investigators alleged that Kuldeep developed hostility following an incident in which his brother was taken to a police station and allegedly assaulted.
During the subsequent investigation, police alleged that Kuldeep had attacked a constable while evading apprehension and later targeted the head constable’s family. The case also involved an extensive search operation and his eventual arrest.
The murders triggered public outrage in Surajpur, where vehicles outside Kuldeep Sahu’s residence and warehouse were reportedly set on fire amid heightened tensions.
The three death sentences will be subject to the legally prescribed confirmation proceedings before the competent High Court. The case has concluded at the trial court stage with the imposition of the sentences. Defense attorneys have announced plans to appeal the verdict once the official documentation is released.
