March 7, 2026 : The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur has marked a notable achievement in medical research at the national level, with its Department of Radiation Oncology earning top honors at the 17th Indian Society of Neuro-Oncology Conference (ISNOCON 2026). The conference, hosted by Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune from April 3 to 5, 2026, recognized the institute’s work with the Best Paper Award and a Gold Medal in the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Neuro-oncology category.
The award-winning research paper, titled “Navigating the Neuraxis: A Comprehensive Review of Craniospinal Irradiation (CSI) with VMAT,” was authored by Dr. Papuji Meher, Associate Professor, under the guidance of Dr. Siddhartha Nanda, Professor and Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Mukesh Kumar also contributed as a co-author.
The study focuses on the application of Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) in Craniospinal Irradiation (CSI), highlighting its clinical advantages. The technique enables greater precision in targeting tumors, reduces treatment-related side effects, and significantly improves procedural efficiency.
Experts note that this research has the potential to transform the treatment landscape for brain tumors, particularly among children and young patients.
Lt. Gen. Ashok Jindal (Retd.), Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Raipur, commended the team for the accomplishment, emphasizing that such advancements will enhance the quality of cancer care, especially in regions like Chhattisgarh. The recognition underscores the institute’s continued focus on adopting advanced technologies and delivering patient-centered healthcare.
