March 14, 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah today sounded the BJP’s poll bugle for next year’s Punjab Assembly elections during a rally in Moga district. Addressing the ‘Badlav Rally’ at village Killi Chahlan, he said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party is voted to power in the state, it will make Punjab drug-free within two years and introduce a law in the Assembly to stop religious conversions.
Targeting the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government, Shah accused it of failing to control crime, drug abuse, corruption and religious conversions, and said farmers in the state are facing serious challenges under the current administration.
He appealed to the people of Punjab to bring a “double-engine government” by electing the BJP in the state along with the party at the Centre, stating that such a government would help eliminate these issues and restore prosperity in the state.
The Home Minister also said that the BJP-led government at the Centre has ensured justice for many victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots by bringing those responsible to account.
Paying tribute to the Sikh Gurus and the martyrs of Punjab, Shah said the BJP had earlier entered Punjab politics as a junior partner, but this time the party is fully prepared to form the next government in the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help Punjab regain its lost glory.
