  • Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Files Nomination for Rajya Sabha from Bihar; Several Senior Leaders Present

    March 05, 2026 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from the state. The nomination was submitted at the Bihar Assembly office in the presence of several senior leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Naveen, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.

    Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar announced through a social media post that he would be contesting for a seat in the Rajya Sabha. He said that after serving as a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislative Assembly as well as the Lok Sabha, he also wished to serve in the Upper House of Parliament. He added that through this step he is now moving to the Rajya Sabha.

    Nitish Kumar assured the people of Bihar that his connection with the state would remain strong even after the move. He also said he would continue to provide full support and guidance to the new government in Bihar.

    Meanwhile, BJP National President Nitin Naveen and the party’s state general secretary Shivesh Kumar also filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections today. Other candidates who submitted nominations include Ramnath Thakur from Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha, and Amrendradhari Singh from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

    Scrutiny of the nomination papers for the five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar will take place tomorrow. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 9, while voting for the seats is scheduled for March 16.
