Bilaspur : Bilaspur Airport in Chhattisgarh has been upgraded to support all-weather flight operations, a move expected to significantly improve regional air connectivity and passenger convenience. The airport has been reclassified from the existing 3C–Visual Flight Rules category to 3C–All-Weather Operations under Instrument Flight Rules, allowing aircraft to operate safely even during fog, heavy rainfall, and other adverse weather conditions.

The upgrade marks a major milestone for the state’s aviation infrastructure and is expected to reduce flight cancellations and delays, ensuring more reliable and seamless air travel for passengers using Bilaspur Airport.

Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu welcomed the development and expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Chhattisgarh to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu for approving the long-pending upgrade. He said the decision reflects the Centre’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure in the state.

The minister credited the coordinated efforts of the Central and State governments for the project’s success, highlighting the role of inter-ministerial coordination, particularly the transfer of required land from the Ministry of Defence. He added that the development-oriented leadership of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has been instrumental in pushing key infrastructure initiatives forward.

With the introduction of Instrument Flight Rules, flight operations at Bilaspur Airport will now continue uninterrupted during poor visibility and challenging weather conditions. This is expected to bring substantial time savings and greater convenience for passengers, while also improving operational safety.

Beyond passenger benefits, the airport upgrade is likely to act as a catalyst for economic growth across the region. Improved air connectivity is expected to boost trade, attract new investments, support industrial activity, and promote tourism not only in Bilaspur but across Chhattisgarh.

Expressing confidence in the future, the Union Minister said sustained cooperation between the Centre and the State will help position Chhattisgarh as an emerging hub for development, connectivity, and investment in the years ahead.
