BJP Sweeps Chandigarh Mayoral Elections, Wins All Top Civic Posts

Law Notify : The Bharatiya Janata Party recorded a decisive victory in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation mayoral elections, winning all three key posts. BJP candidate Saurabh Joshi was elected Mayor of Chandigarh with 18 votes. He defeated Aam Aadmi Party nominee Yogesh Dhingra, who secured 11 votes, while Congress candidate Gurpreet Singh Gabi received 7 votes. Chandigarh Member of Parliament Manish Tiwari cast his vote in support of the Congress candidate.

Unlike previous elections, the mayoral vote was conducted through a show of hands by the councilors under the supervision of presiding officer Ramnik Singh Bedi.

The BJP also captured the post of Senior Deputy Mayor, with Jasmanpreet Singh winning 18 votes against AAP candidate Munawwar Khan, who received 11 votes. Similarly, the Deputy Mayor’s post went to BJP candidate Suman Sharma, who secured 18 votes, defeating AAP’s Jaswinder Kaur, who got 11 votes. The Congress party chose not to contest the elections for Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Following the results, Aam Aadmi Party’s Chandigarh in-charge Jarnail Singh criticized the Congress in a social media post, alleging that the party had once again supported the BJP.
