Pune, February 6, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two officers of the Military Engineering Services (MES) in Pune for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in connection with the clearance of contract payments.
According to an official press release issued by the CBI, the accused include an Assistant Garrison Engineer (E/M-II) and a Junior Engineer (E/M-II) posted at MES, Khadki, Pune. The arrests were made while the officials were allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh from a complainant.
The case was registered by the CBI on February 3, 2026, following a complaint alleging that the two officers had demanded an undue advantage of ₹6 lakh. The complainant, who holds a power of attorney for a private company executing MES contracts, alleged that despite completion of work and submission of completion certificates, payments were deliberately withheld to coerce payment of a bribe.
After negotiations, the accused officials reportedly agreed to accept ₹2 lakh as the first installment of the demanded bribe amount. Acting on this information, the CBI laid a trap on February 5, 2026, and caught the Junior Engineer red-handed while accepting the bribe amount at his office. The cash was recovered from his possession.
Subsequently, the Assistant Garrison Engineer was also arrested for his alleged role in the conspiracy. Searches conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused resulted in the recovery of incriminating documents and unexplained cash amounting to ₹1,88,500.
The CBI stated that further investigation in the case is ongoing.
