  • Chaitra Navratri Begins with Devotion Across India

    Chaitra Navratri

March 19, 2026 : Chaitra Navratri commenced today, with devotees across India observing the nine-day festival with deep faith and enthusiasm. The celebrations began with morning aartis at temples, including in the national capital, where large crowds gathered to offer prayers and seek blessings.

The term ‘Navratri’, meaning ‘nine nights’, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga in her nine manifestations, collectively known as Navdurga. Each day of the festival honours a different form of the Goddess, representing strength, purity and wisdom.

While four Navratris are observed throughout the year, Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri hold the greatest significance. Chaitra Navratri coincides with the arrival of spring and the beginning of the Hindu New Year, symbolising renewal, spiritual cleansing and new beginnings. It is celebrated in diverse ways across different regions of the country.

During these nine days, devotees observe fasts and consume satvik food. Daily rituals include special prayers, bhajans and aartis, creating a deeply devotional atmosphere in homes and temples. The festival is a celebration of the divine feminine energy, or Shakti.

Chaitra Navratri will conclude with Ram Navami, marking the birth of Lord Ram.
