Law Notify : The 2026–27 Union Budget marks a historic, transformative investment in Chhattisgarh’s railways, positioning the state as a central hub for national connectivity and growth. Reflecting this priority, the average annual railway budget for the state has surged over twenty-fourfold—from just ₹311 crore (2009–14) to an unprecedented ₹7,470 crore.
Currently, projects worth ₹51,080 crore are actively modernizing the entire network. This includes laying approximately 1,200 km of new tracks since 2014—surpassing the total rail length of some nations—and achieving 100% electrification of its broad-gauge network to boost sustainability.
Passenger experience is being redefined under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with 32 stations slated for redevelopment (₹1,674 crore investment). Five stations have already been upgraded, and premium services like two Vande Bharat and one Amrit Bharat Express pairs have been introduced.
Safety and efficiency are paramount, with 170 flyovers/underpasses built to eliminate level crossings. The indigenous ‘Kavach’ protection system is also being deployed across 1,083 sanctioned route kilometers.
Collectively, these initiatives are accelerating industrial growth, mineral evacuation, and regional development while generating employment and solidifying Chhattisgarh’s strategic role in India’s logistics future.
