March 29, 2026 : In a key push to strengthen judicial infrastructure in the remote and strategically significant region of Ladakh, the newly constructed District Court Complex at Kargil was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant. The inauguration was conducted virtually from Leh due to adverse weather conditions.
The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Arun Palli, along with other judges and senior officials.
Addressing the gathering, CJI Surya Kant underlined the importance of developing modern judicial infrastructure in remote regions, noting that such initiatives are essential to ensure access to justice despite geographical challenges. He highlighted that areas like Ladakh, which face harsh winters and difficult terrain, require robust systems to maintain continuity in judicial services.
