With air pollution worsening in the national capital, the Commission for Air Quality Management has enforced Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan across the entire National Capital Region with immediate effect.
The decision comes after Delhi’s Air Quality Index touched 354 on Friday, placing it firmly in the “very poor” category. Authorities said the measures were triggered to prevent further deterioration in air quality.
Under the latest restrictions, all construction and demolition activities have been halted. This includes earthwork, piling, trenching, road construction, and major repair works. In addition, BS-IV diesel light commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi have been barred from entering the city, except those involved in essential services or carrying essential goods.
The Commission has also issued a nine-point action plan, directing various agencies to ensure strict implementation of pollution control measures. These include the Pollution Control Boards of NCR states and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, which have been asked to intensify monitoring and enforcement on the ground.
Officials said the situation will continue to be reviewed, and further steps may be taken if air quality shows no improvement.
