Delhi High Court Declines to Stay IRCTC Scam Trial Against Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav

News Delhi, January 15, 2026 : The Delhi High Court on Tuesday declined to stay the ongoing trial in the IRCTC scam case involving RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav.

A Bench led by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma said the trial would continue as scheduled. However, it allowed the cross-examination of witnesses to be taken up in the next-to-next week, by which time the court is expected to decide on the petitions filed by the father and son challenging the framing of charges.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Lalu Prasad Yadav, submitted that the matter was listed for consideration on whether the trial should be stayed while the challenge to the charges was pending. He pointed out that once the examination-in-chief of witnesses is completed, the trial would move into the cross-examination stage.

Earlier, on October 13, 2025, the trial court framed charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, and 11 others. The charges relate to alleged offences of cheating and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code, along with violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act, in connection with the IRCTC scam.
