March 07, 2026 : The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted an aerodrome license to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited for the Noida International Airport located at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The airport has been licensed under the Public Use category and will operate as an all-weather facility.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the airport is being developed in four phases and will include a multi-modal cargo hub. In the first phase, the airport will have one runway and one terminal with the capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually.

Once all phases are completed, the Noida International Airport is expected to handle up to 70 million passengers every year, making it one of the major aviation hubs in the country.

Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu congratulated the Uttar Pradesh government on the development of the airport, describing it as an important step in strengthening aviation connectivity in the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh. He said the world-class facility will promote regional economic growth, tourism and investment, while also providing a seamless travel experience and reducing congestion at existing airports in the region.

The Ministry noted that India is rapidly expanding its aviation network by developing new greenfield airports while upgrading brownfield airports and regional airstrips. These efforts are supported by initiatives such as the UDAN scheme. It added that India’s long-term aviation roadmap aims to develop more than 400 airports by 2047 to enhance connectivity, support economic growth and promote national integration.
