Model Youth Gram Sabha Brings Pride to Chhattisgarh

Law Notify : In a major national recognition for Chhattisgarh, Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Kosambuda, has emerged as the national winner of the inaugural ‘Model Youth Gram Sabha’ (MYGS) competition. The award was presented today at a formal ceremony in New Delhi organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Competing against students from more than 800 schools across the country, the team from EMRS Kosambuda stood out for its clarity of thought, teamwork, and deep understanding of grassroots governance.

The MYGS initiative was launched on October 30, 2025, as a joint effort of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and the Ministry of Education. The program encouraged students to simulate Gram Sabha proceedings, identify local-level challenges, and propose realistic solutions rooted in community participation. Through this exercise, students were introduced to the practical functioning of democratic institutions and rural decision-making processes.

The students from EMRS Kosambuda impressed the jury with their strong grasp of rural development issues and their ability to present workable, community-oriented solutions. Their performance reflected not only academic preparation but also a mature understanding of participatory governance, making them deserving winners of this first-of-its-kind national competition.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr. Kamlakant Yadav, Principal of EMRS Kosambuda, expressed pride in the students’ achievement. He said the national-level first position reflects the students’ dedication, discipline, and thoughtful engagement with real-world challenges. He also highlighted how the MYGS initiative has successfully connected classroom learning with practical leadership experience at the grassroots level.

Within a short span of less than three months, the ‘Model Youth Gram Sabha’ initiative has grown into a meaningful platform for youth engagement, reaching hundreds of schools nationwide. The top six shortlisted teams were recognized for presenting innovative and practical solutions to local issues. By securing the top position, EMRS Kosambuda students have not only brought honour to Chhattisgarh but have also demonstrated the potential of young minds in strengthening India’s democratic and participatory governance framework.
