Fire Mock Drill Conducted at SIMS Hospital, Preparedness for Emergencies Assessed

April 5, 2026 : A fire mock drill was conducted on Saturday afternoon on the second floor of SIMS Hospital, the largest hospital in Bilaspur division. The exercise was carried out to assess preparedness for fire-related emergencies, especially in view of the increasing electrical load. A joint team of the Municipal Corporation and Fire Brigade participated in the drill.

During the mock drill, the emergency response time was tested. The hospital administration also evaluated its real-time preparedness to control fire incidents. The functioning of the fire safety system, alertness of teams, and coordination among different units were also reviewed.

Recently, Dean Dr. Ramanesh Murti and Medical Superintendent Dr. Lakhan Singh conducted a surprise inspection of the hospital premises. Key fire safety aspects, including firefighting equipment, alarm systems, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and emergency exit routes, were thoroughly examined.

Officials informed that a total of 664 fire extinguishers, including ABC and CO₂ types, have been installed across wards, OPD, emergency units, and other sensitive areas. Each extinguisher was checked for functionality, pressure level, fitness, and validity period.

Special attention was given to critical departments such as NICU and PICU. The fire alarm systems and smoke detectors installed in these units were tested to ensure immediate alerts in case of smoke or fire. Additionally, the automatic sprinkler system across the hospital premises was also inspected.

Following the inspection, a meeting of doctors and staff was held. Those present included Dr. Madhumita Murti, Dr. O.P. Raj, Amit Thakur, Dr. Sameer Paikra, Nursing Superintendent Swati Kumar, along with other staff members.
