  • From Bilaspur to Madras: Justice M.M. Srivastava Retires as Chief Justice of Madras High Court

    Bilaspur : Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava retired from the post of Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on Thursday. A farewell ceremony was held at the High Court in his honour, attended by judges, advocates and judicial officers. During the ceremony, Justice Srivastava received a standing ovation in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the judiciary.

    Born on March 6, 1964, in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Justice Srivastava completed his early education in Bilaspur. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from CMD College, Bilaspur, and later earned his LLB with a gold medal from KR Law College, Bilaspur. He also served as a member of the Board of Studies and the Academic Council of Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur.

    Justice Srivastava enrolled as an advocate with the Madhya Pradesh Bar Council in Jabalpur on October 5, 1987. He subsequently practiced at the District Court in Raigarh and the High Court. During his legal career, he served as standing counsel for the Income Tax Department, Raipur Municipal Corporation, and Chhattisgarh State Electricity organizations. He was also associated with Rotary International.

    On January 31, 2005, he was designated as a Senior Advocate. Later, on December 10, 2009, he was appointed as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court. During his tenure as a judge, he delivered significant judgments across several areas of law, including constitutional, service, taxation, labour, civil and criminal matters.

    In October 2021, he was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court and assumed office on October 18, 2021. Subsequently, on February 6, 2024, he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.

    On July 14, 2025, the Central Government appointed him as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, and he took oath on July 21, 2025. Following his retirement, Justice Dharmadhikari, originally from Jabalpur, has assumed charge as the new Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

    Justice M. M. Srivastava’s judicial journey began in Bilaspur and extended to some of the country’s leading High Courts, where he made notable contributions to the development of law and the administration of justice.
