  • Government Issues Show Cause Notices to Edible Oil Firms Over VOPPA Order Non-Compliance

Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability (Regulation) Amendment Order, 2025

The central government has issued show cause notices to several edible oil companies for failing to comply with the Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability (Regulation) Amendment Order, 2025, commonly known as the VOPPA Order.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said the amended order makes it mandatory for all manufacturers, processors, blenders and re-packers of edible oils to register on the National Single Window System as well as the VOPPA portal. The ministry noted that registration is a key requirement under the new regulatory framework.

According to the ministry, all registered entities are also required to submit monthly returns detailing production, stock levels, imports, dispatches and sales of various edible oil products. These disclosures are intended to give the government a real-time view of the sector.

The ministry said the amended VOPPA framework is aimed at improving transparency across the edible oil supply chain, supporting data-driven policy decisions and strengthening national food security.
