March 14, 2026 : The Government of India has assured that there will be no disruption in the supply of fuel to households and essential services across the country despite the evolving situation in West Asia.
Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sujata Sharma, said the government has taken several measures to maintain steady availability of fuel for domestic consumers, hospitals, educational institutions and other critical sectors.
She said domestic LPG production at refineries has been increased by more than 30 percent to meet the growing demand. In addition, commercial LPG cylinders have been made available to state governments for priority distribution among consumers.
Sharma also clarified that the supply of domestic PNG and CNG for vehicles will continue without any cuts. Retail fuel outlet dealers across the country have been directed to strictly follow the guidelines while dispensing fuel, and any violation will invite strict action.
To further strengthen fuel availability, the government has allocated an additional 48,000 kilolitres of kerosene over and above the regular supply to all states and Union Territories. States and UTs have been asked to identify district-level distribution points to facilitate smooth supply of kerosene.
Meanwhile, the government has also activated alternate fuel arrangements to reduce pressure on LPG supplies. The Ministry of Coal has directed Coal India and Singareni Collieries Company Limited to provide higher quantities of coal to states so that small, medium and other consumers can access alternative fuel sources.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has also advised State Pollution Control Boards to allow the temporary use of kerosene and coal as alternative fuels for hotels and restaurants for a period of one month.
Separately, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday and highlighted India’s priority regarding the safety and well-being of Indian nationals in the region, including those in Iran.
During the briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s consistent position that all issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
