INS Sudarshini to Begin 10-Month Global Sail Training Expedition ‘Lokayan 26’

January 20, 2026 : Indian Navy Ship INS Sudarshini will set sail tomorrow on a 10-month transoceanic expedition under the banner of Lokayan 26. According to the Defence Ministry, the voyage will cover more than 22,000 nautical miles and include port calls at 18 foreign ports across 13 countries.

During the expedition, the ship will participate in major international maritime events such as Escale à Sète in France and SAIL 250 in New York, United States.

Over 200 trainees from the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard will undertake intensive sail training during the voyage. The programme is designed to provide hands-on experience in long-range ocean navigation, traditional seamanship, and life at sea.

INS Sudarshini will also engage in professional interactions and training exchanges with the navies of partner countries during port visits. These engagements aim to deepen maritime cooperation and support India’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR).
