March 12, 2026 : A nationwide National Lok Adalat will be organized on Saturday, March 14, 2026, under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, to facilitate settlement of disputes through mutual compromise. In Chhattisgarh, the State Legal Services Authority (SALSA), Bilaspur will conduct Lok Adalats in all district courts and subordinate courts across the state. This will be the first Lok Adalat of the calendar year 2026.
During the Lok Adalat, several categories of pending cases will be taken up for settlement in district and taluka courts. These include compoundable criminal cases, motor accident claim cases, cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, cases under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, matrimonial disputes, and matters related to water tax, property tax, traffic challans, excise matters, and rent control.
In addition, pre-litigation cases related to banks and electricity departments will also be considered. Revenue courts will take up matters concerning partition disputes among landholders and inheritance-related property divisions. The initiative aims to reduce the backlog of cases in courts and provide litigants with speedy and accessible justice.
Special benches will be constituted for the National Lok Adalat to handle different categories of pending and pre-litigation matters. Cases related to bank recovery, civil disputes, execution matters, electricity issues, and family disputes will also be resolved through mutual settlement during the proceedings.
Departments such as revenue, banking, electricity, telecommunications, municipal corporations, municipal councils, and nagar panchayats will present pending recovery-related pre-litigation matters before the District Legal Services Authority. After proper registration, these cases will be placed before Lok Adalat benches for settlement.
Through the Lok Adalat mechanism, parties can resolve their disputes amicably without prolonged litigation. Matters related to telecommunications dues, municipal recoveries, motor accident claims, bank recovery cases, and property partition disputes based on possession or records will also be taken up.
Cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS-2023), Rent Control Act, easement rights, as well as mutation matters based on sale deeds, gift deeds, and wills will be identified and settled through mutual compromise during the National Lok Adalat.
