March 07, 2026 : The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted an international drug trafficking network operating across Nepal, India and Sri Lanka.
In a coordinated operation, the NCB’s Chennai Zonal Unit, along with the Hyderabad Zonal Unit, seized more than 77 kilograms of hashish oil and 2 kilograms of charas. Officials also recovered a fishing boat that was being used to transport the contraband.
According to the NCB, five people have been arrested so far, including a Sri Lankan refugee.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the charas and hashish oil were smuggled into India from Kathmandu, Nepal, through the Sonauli Indo-Nepal border. The arrested individuals had already delivered around 78 kilograms of hashish oil at Thoothukudi, from where it was to be trafficked to Sri Lanka through the sea route.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the NCB Chennai unit intercepted the consignment and seized the hashish oil before it could be shipped further.
