NCERT Withdraws Class 8 Social Science Book Over Chapter on Judiciary, Issues Public Apology

March 10, 2026 : The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has withdrawn the Class 8 social science textbook Exploring Society: India and Beyond – Grade 8 (Part-II) after concerns over Chapter IV titled “The Role of Judiciary in Our Society.”

In a public apology issued this morning, NCERT stated that the entire book has been withdrawn and is no longer available for distribution.

The Director and members of NCERT also issued an unconditional and unqualified apology regarding the contents of Chapter IV.
