January 20, 2026 : Bharatiya Janata Party working president Nitin Nabin has been elected as the new national president of the party. The announcement was made on Sunday by the party’s National Returning Officer Dr K Laxman during the Sangathan Parv at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. Mr Nabin was formally handed over the certificate of election and felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with senior leaders Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, and Nitin Gadkari.
Congratulating Mr Nabin, Prime Minister Modi described the BJP as the largest political party in the world and said the new president would carry forward its ideological and organisational legacy. He noted that Mr Nabin represents a generation that has lived through major economic, social, and technological changes, and said his youthful energy combined with long organisational experience would benefit party workers across the country.
During his address, the Prime Minister reiterated that India would not allow infiltrators to exploit the country’s resources meant for the poor. He said infiltrators posed a serious threat to the nation and stressed that political forces attempting to shield them should be exposed before the public.
Mr Modi also highlighted that the entire organisational exercise, from the grassroots units to the election of the national president, had been conducted in a fully democratic manner over the past several months. He said Sangathan Parv reflected the BJP’s commitment to internal democracy, discipline, and a worker-centric culture. Emphasising continuity of values, he remarked that while party presidents may change, the BJP’s ideals remain constant.
Addressing the gathering after his election, Mr Nabin expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and senior party leaders for entrusting him with the responsibility. He paid tribute to former BJP national presidents and recalled his own political journey, beginning with his first election as an MLA in 2006. Calling the occasion a moment of resolve, he said the nation’s 140 crore citizens were collectively working to realise Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India.
Union Minister JP Nadda termed Mr Nabin’s election a historic moment for the party. He said the new president had a strong ideological foundation and notable legislative experience, having served multiple terms as an MLA at a young age.
Mr Nabin is the youngest national president in the BJP’s history and the first leader from Bihar to hold the post. He represents the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna and currently serves as Road Construction Minister in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government. With nearly two decades of organisational work, he has earlier served as Bihar president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and as the party’s election in-charge for Chhattisgarh.
