NTPC to Host IPS 2026, Focus on Quality and Reliability in Thermal Power

NTPC Limited, the country’s largest integrated power utility, will host the Indian Power Stations O&M Conference (IPS 2026) from February 13 to 15, 2026. The three-day event will bring together experts and professionals from across the power sector for discussions, knowledge sharing and collaboration. Senior officials from the Ministry of Power and leading public sector undertakings are expected to attend.

The annual conference is closely linked to NTPC’s history. It commemorates the commissioning of the company’s first thermal power unit at Singrauli in 1982, a milestone that marked the beginning of its long journey in India’s power sector. Over time, IPS has grown into a respected platform where policymakers, industry leaders, plant operators, manufacturers, researchers and academicians meet to exchange ideas and practical experiences.

The theme for this year’s edition, “Optimising Thermal Generation with Quality & Reliability,” underlines the continuing role of thermal power in ensuring energy security and grid stability. Even as India expands its renewable capacity, thermal generation remains critical for dependable supply. The conference will focus on strengthening quality standards and operational reliability through shared expertise and field-tested practices.

Technical sessions will cover a wide range of issues, including flexible plant operations, safety practices, asset and fuel management, water optimisation, digital technologies and efficiency improvements. Participants will also discuss emerging areas such as nuclear energy, hydrogen, renewable integration and storage solutions, reflecting the sector’s transition towards a more diversified energy mix.

IPS 2026 has received strong participation from across the industry, with more than 466 technical papers submitted. Out of these, 107 papers have been selected for presentation. Contributors include organisations, original equipment manufacturers, independent power producers, regulatory and statutory bodies, universities and research institutions, including EPRI.

A key highlight of the conference will be the Techno Galaxy Exhibition. The exhibition will showcase advanced technologies, artificial intelligence applications, digital solutions and innovative practices aimed at improving efficiency, safety and sustainability in power plant operations. Models and performance highlights from various NTPC stations will also be displayed through their respective regional headquarters.

NTPC currently operates more than 87 GW of installed capacity, with an additional 32 GW under construction. The company has set a target of reaching 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW of renewable energy capacity. With a diversified portfolio spanning thermal, hydro, solar and wind projects, NTPC continues to position itself as a key player in delivering reliable and sustainable power to the country.
