Law Notify, January 25, 2026 : The Padma Awards for 2026 were announced on Saturday, with President Droupadi Murmu approving the conferment of 131 civilian honours on the eve of Republic Day. The total includes two duo awards, which are counted as single honours.
The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian recognitions and are conferred in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. They recognise distinguished service across a wide range of fields, including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports and civil service.
Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a high order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced annually on Republic Day and are formally presented by the President of India at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, usually in March or April.
For 2026, the list comprises five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri awards. Nineteen of the awardees are women. The list also includes six recipients from the Foreigners, NRI, PIO and OCI categories, along with 16 posthumous honours.
The government has released the complete list of awardees along with their respective fields and states or countries.
