March 17, 2026 : The Lok Sabha is set to continue discussions and proceed with voting on the Demands for Grants related to the Ministry of Railways for the financial year 2026–27 today.

During the debate held yesterday, Congress leader Tariq Anwar criticized the government, claiming it has not achieved its stated targets. He pointed out that under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, redevelopment has been completed at only around 160 stations out of the planned 1,337. He also questioned the government’s commitment to passenger safety, alleging that announcements are being made without substantial implementation.

Responding to the criticism, BJP MP Ganesh Singh highlighted the progress made in the railway sector over the past decade. He said the Indian Railways has undergone significant transformation, with the introduction of new technologies and expansion of the network. He also noted a sharp rise in budget allocation, stating that it has increased from ₹63,000 crore in 2013–14 to ₹2.78 lakh crore currently.

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the Appropriation Bill, 2026 for consideration and return.
