March 23, 2026 : In accordance with the directives of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the State Legal Services Authority (SALSA), a prison inspection in Kabirdham was carried out on March 23 by the Board of Visitors and the Empowered Committee constituted by the Supreme Court of India.
The inspection was led by Principal District and Sessions Judge Mrs. Satyabhama Ajay Dubey. The team included Mr. Aman Tigga, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority; Mr. Narendra Paikara, Additional Collector; Mr. Pushpendra Singh Baghel, Additional Superintendent of Police; Mr. L.R. Chhatre from the Public Works Department; along with other members of the committee constituted under the Jail Manual, 2016.
During the visit, the team examined prison barracks, assessed any caste-based discriminatory practices, and reviewed facilities such as bathing areas, overall sanitation, food quality, and healthcare arrangements for inmates. Detailed observations were made regarding barrack capacity, inmate occupancy, medical facilities, cleanliness, kitchen hygiene, availability of safe drinking water, and the nutritional quality of meals.
The team also reviewed provisions for recreational and physical activities, training opportunities for inmates, and the maintenance of greenery within the prison premises.
Following the inspection, the Principal District and Sessions Judge issued necessary directions to the Assistant Jail Superintendent to address the observations and ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
