Raipur, January 12, 2026 : The Chhattisgarh Higher Education Department has taken swift and strict action in serious cases involving violations of government procurement rules. Complaints were received through various sources alleging that universities and government colleges had carried out purchases worth crores of rupees without following the mandatory tender process.
A departmental inquiry revealed that several universities and government colleges issued large-scale purchase orders without inviting tenders, in clear violation of established procurement norms.
According to available information, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur, issued 26 purchase orders worth around ₹1 crore on a single day, April 15, 2025, without a tender process. Similarly, Government Borna Sanatan Sanskrit Model College issued 22 purchase orders worth ₹35 lakh on October 14, 2025, while Government Model College Loharkot issued 36 purchase orders amounting to ₹1 crore on October 22, 2025, all without following tender procedures.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the Higher Education Department constituted an inquiry committee on November 28, 2025, under the chairmanship of an Additional Director. Based on the committee’s report, the principal and members of the purchase committee of Government Model College, Loharkot, Mahasamund have been suspended. In the cases related to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur, and Government Borna Sanatan Sanskrit Model College, Narayanpur, action has also been taken against the principal along with four assistant professors, who have been suspended.
The Directorate of Higher Education has clearly stated that violations of government procurement rules will not be tolerated under any circumstances and strict action against those found guilty will continue. The move is being seen as a significant step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in higher education institutions across the state.
