  • Supreme Court-Directed Revision: West Bengal Final Voter List Published, Over 63 Lakh Names Deleted

    March 1, 2026 : In compliance with directives issued by the Supreme Court of India, the Election Commission of India has released the final electoral roll for West Bengal following a Special Intensive Revision exercise.

    According to the updated list, the total number of registered voters in the state now stands at 6,44,52,609. The Commission has also indicated that the names of 60,06,675 voters remain under adjudication.

    Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal stated that at the time of the draft publication, the total electorate was recorded at 7,08,16,630. During the course of the revision, 5,46,053 additional names were deleted from the final roll through fresh additions and deletions. In the draft roll itself, more than 58,20,000 names had already been excluded. In total, 63,66,952 names have been removed from the state’s voter list so far.

    He clarified that after conducting hearings, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers carefully examined all submitted documents before taking a decision to delete the concerned names. He added that there is a provision for restoration in cases where deletion may have occurred by mistake. Affected individuals can file claims and objections within the next 15 days.

    The final electoral roll has been displayed at all polling stations across the state and is also available for inspection at the offices of the Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. Copies have been supplied to recognised political parties. Voters can verify their names using their EPIC number through the official websites of the Election Commission and the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, as well as through the ECI Net mobile application.
