  • Trump Claims US Airstrike on Iran’s Kharg Island Destroyed Military Targets, Warns Tehran’s Regional Ambitions Are “Dead”

Kharg Island: Iran’s Key Oil Export Terminal and Strategic Military Site

March 14 , 2026 : US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s ambitions to dominate the entire West Asian region and destroy Israel have effectively ended following a major American airstrike on Iranian military targets.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran’s plans for regional domination were now “dead,” adding that the United States had carried out a powerful bombing raid targeting military facilities on Kharg Island. He asserted that the operation, conducted by the United States Central Command on his orders, “totally obliterated” every military site on the island and described it as one of the most powerful bombing raids in the region’s history.

Trump said the strike was carefully planned to avoid damaging oil infrastructure on the island. Kharg Island is widely regarded as Iran’s economic lifeline, functioning as the terminal for nearly 90 percent of the country’s crude oil exports. Because Iran relies heavily on oil revenues—much of it sold to Asian markets, particularly China—any disruption to the island could significantly affect the country’s financial stability and its ability to sustain military operations.

Apart from its economic importance, Kharg Island also holds strategic military value due to its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global shipping route. US officials have alleged that Iran has used facilities on the island to coordinate drone and missile attacks on international shipping in the Gulf.

Iran responded swiftly to the strike. Through its Central Headquarters, the Iranian military warned on March 14 that any further attacks on its energy infrastructure would trigger retaliation against oil and energy installations across the region linked to companies cooperating with the United States.

Tehran has also reportedly intensified cyber and infrastructure operations. According to reports, Iranian authorities have published a target list that includes major American technology companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle Corporation. There are also claims that drone attacks have been launched against data centres in parts of the region as tensions continue to escalate.
