Trump Invites PM Modi to Join ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza

January 19, 2026 : The United States President Donald Trump has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be part of a proposed international body called the “Board of Peace,” aimed at working towards long-term peace and stability in Gaza.

The invitation was conveyed through a formal letter from President Trump to the Prime Minister. The letter was later shared publicly by the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, on social media. In the message, President Trump described it as a great honour to invite Mr Modi to join a collective effort to solidify peace in the Middle East and to pursue what he called a bold new approach to resolving global conflicts.

The Board of Peace was announced by the US President as part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Washington is presenting the initiative as a new international platform intended to promote peace, security, and stability in Gaza and potentially other conflict-affected regions.

In his letter to Mr Modi, President Trump also referred to his September 29 announcement outlining a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict, along with a 20-point roadmap for peace in the Middle East. A key element of this roadmap is the proposal to transform Gaza into a deradicalised and terror-free zone that would not pose a threat to its neighbouring regions.

The invitation underscores India’s growing diplomatic profile and its perceived role in contributing to international peace initiatives, particularly in complex and sensitive geopolitical regions.
