Bilaspur, January 14, 2026 : The High Court of Chhattisgarh took another step toward improving judicial infrastructure with the virtual Bhoomi Poojan and foundation stone laying for the new Civil Court Building at Pratappur in Surajpur district. The ceremony was held on Wednesday and marked the formal start of construction for the much-needed court complex.
The foundation stone was virtually laid by Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Justice highlighted the importance of modern and well-equipped court buildings in delivering justice efficiently and accessibly. He noted that improved infrastructure directly benefits litigants, advocates, and court staff by creating better working conditions and supporting timely disposal of cases.
Justice Sinha also emphasised that strengthening judicial facilities in semi-urban and rural areas reflects the High Court’s commitment to equal access to justice and balanced regional development across the state.
The programme was attended virtually by Justice Radhakishan Agrawal, Judge of the High Court of Chhattisgarh and Portfolio Judge for Surajpur district.
Senior officers of the Registry, the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Surajpur, senior police officials, judicial officers, district administration representatives, members of the Bar Association, and court staff from the district also participated in the event.
The proceedings began with a welcome address by Vinita Warner, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Surajpur. A brief video presentation was then screened, offering a preview of the proposed design and facilities of the Civil Court Building at Pratappur.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Om Prakash Singh Chauhan, District and Additional Sessions Judge, Pratappur, who thanked the Chief Justice, the Portfolio Judge, and all officials and stakeholders involved in organising the ceremony.
The event underscored the High Court of Chhattisgarh’s ongoing focus on upgrading judicial infrastructure and strengthening the justice delivery system throughout the state.
