Law Notify, January 15 ,2026 : Counting of votes for elections to 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, is being held today, with the process scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Authorities have put in place extensive arrangements to ensure smooth conduct, including security deployment, traffic regulation, and law-and-order management.

A total of 15,931 candidates are contesting these civic polls across the state. In the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation alone, 1,700 candidates are in the fray. The BMC, which has an annual budget exceeding ₹74,400 crore, is voting for the first time since the 2022 split in the Shiv Sena, when Eknath Shinde broke away with a majority of party MLAs and formed a government with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
