    January 20, 2026 : The office of the Chief Electoral Officer in West Bengal has expressed confidence that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls will be completed within the February 14 deadline set by the Election Commission of India.

    In its weekly report to the Commission, the state submitted detailed accounts of all incidents connected with SIR hearings. After examining the report, the Commission urgently summoned West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, to Delhi, where an extended meeting was held.

    According to Commission sources, the discussions focused on ensuring the smooth conduct of the SIR process and reinforcing arrangements for free and fair elections in West Bengal. Preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections were also reviewed, including security planning, booth infrastructure, and election management procedures.

    The Commission has decided to initiate special monitoring of the ongoing revision process from today. This monitoring will be carried out under the direct supervision of Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal.
