February 20, 2026 : World Day of Social Justice is being observed today, highlighting the global push to address poverty, social exclusion, gender inequality, and unemployment. The day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2007 to advance fairness, uphold human rights, and strengthen social protection systems worldwide.
To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with a National Law University, is organising a special programme. Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, B. L. Verma, will lead a collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution.
According to the Ministry, the reading is intended to reaffirm the nation’s commitment to the constitutional ideals of Justice, social, economic and political, as well as Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.
