January 20, 2026 : BJP working president Nitin Nabin is set to take over as the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, with his formal election scheduled to be announced tomorrow.
The party’s National Returning Officer, Dr. K. Laxman, said that Nitin Nabin was the sole candidate proposed for the post. A total of 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in his favour. After scrutiny, all nominations were found to be valid and duly filled as per the prescribed format.
The proposal for Nitin Nabin’s name came from senior party leaders, including BJP national president J. P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with other members of the BJP Parliamentary Party Board.
The BJP national president is elected by an electoral college comprising representatives from the party’s national council and state councils. The position is currently held by J. P. Nadda, who was appointed as the party’s National Working President in June 2019 and later elected unopposed as BJP president in January 2020, succeeding Amit Shah.
