    January 28, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to legendary freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary, remembering him as an immortal son of the motherland whose sacrifice continues to inspire generations of Indians.

    In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister described Lala Lajpat Rai, fondly known as Punjab Kesari, as a towering symbol of courage and patriotism. He said Rai devoted his entire life to freeing Mother Bharati from colonial rule and that his selfless sacrifice remains a guiding force for the nation.

    Several senior leaders also paid homage to the freedom fighter. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Lala Lajpat Rai’s martyrdom brought unity to the freedom struggle at a crucial time. He noted that Rai’s fearless resistance to British rule inspired generations of revolutionaries, including Bhagat Singh, and helped transform the independence movement into a powerful mass uprising.

    Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, BJP President J. P. Nadda, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also remembered Lala Lajpat Rai for his fearless leadership, strong nationalist ideals, and unwavering commitment to Swadeshi principles.

    Lala Lajpat Rai was born on January 28, 1865, in Dhudike village in Punjab. He remains one of the most influential figures of India’s freedom movement, remembered for his resistance against British oppression and his ultimate sacrifice for the country.
